What is a Bed and Breakfast.
Welcome to the exciting experience of Bed and Breakfast travel. Millions of people worldwide enjoy this alternative to the traditional stays at hotels and motels. However, if this is your first experience, we have compiled some information to make sure that your first stay is enjoyable.

What is a bed and breakfast? Although there is no single definition, most B&Bs are private homes offering unique guest rooms with breakfast included in the price. The charm of a B&B is that every one is different. They range from a modern home with a few guest rooms, to a restored Victorian mansion with 10 or more guest rooms. Breakfast can range from a continental to a multi-course gourmet breakfast served in the dining room. Rooms can range from basic bedrooms with shared or private bathrooms to luxurious suites with every amenity. But that is the charm of a Bed and Breakfast. They are all unique and reflect the owner's personal style.

The most important factor to consider in making your stay pleasurable is to ask the Innkeeper specific questions before making a reservation. Be sure to find out if your bathroom is in the room (ensuite) or detached. Ask what type of breakfast is served and if they can accommodate special dietary needs. Feel comfortable to ask about the neighborhood and if the Innkeepers live on site.

Policies on children, pets and smoking vary with every B&B. Many properties are designed to accept children and even offer special activities geared to the younger child. However, don't be surprised if historic Victorian homes only accept children over a certain age, or not at all. This is for the comfort of the other guests as well as the children themselves. Some properties allow you to bring your pets. Be sure to find out what their pet policy is since they may request a pet deposit or crating. Smoking is usually not permitted inside at all. If you smoke, ask your host if smoking is allowed on the property.

Fortunately, the Internet has brought so much information to us that was not available before. You can visit the websites of the B&Bs and see the rooms along with lists of the amenities. You can often "meet the Innkeepers" and have a good knowledge of the place before you visit.

Staying at a bed and breakfast is a much more personal experience than staying at a hotel. Usually you will find interesting hosts, distinctive breakfasts, and wonderfully appointed guest rooms. Many B&Bs today offer TV/VCRs, Internet access, whirlpool tubs, among other amenities.

Our website offers a comprehensive listing of bed and breakfasts throughout the US. Take your time to search through the listings to find your ideal bed and breakfast. And don't forget to ask questions. All of us at InnLodging want your experience at your first or 100th B&B to be enjoyable and memorable.
